1. Beat inflation
If you have a pension or retirement income in US Dollars or Euros then you can expect to get far more pesos for it by virtue of the exchange rate, (that puts stronger currencies at a definite advantage.) And you can get even more if you invest in fixed deposits in the DR some of which can earn you 12 to 24 percent - perhaps tax-free
2. Banking is easy
As a retiree it's not difficult to open a bank or time deposit account in the Dominican Republic. (Unlike the hassles back home)- you only need to have a passport and no tax identification number is asked for. The Dominican Republic is one of the best places for offshore banking.
3. Affordable cost of living
There are other advantages to retiring in the Dominican Republic. It's the only place in which you could afford to hire a full time maid to help with daily chores that become difficult to complete as you get older.
4. Entertainment galore
There is also so much you can do in your spare time as a retiree in the DR. This is one place that has it all-the signature golf clubs, the adventure trails and sports clubs. You will discover a far better lifestyle then the one back home for the same income.
If you want to retire on the beachfront, DR offers charming beach side communities in Punta Cana, Las Terrenas and Cabarete. Moreover you will find yourself with a community of like minded people - mostly of American and European origin, who like and value the good things of life, just as you do.
Incentive Bill approved by Congress
A new law is currently waiting for enactment that makes it easier for retirees from overseas to obtain permanent residency in DR within a few days, as long as they met the minimum income requirement of $1500 US with a government or private pension.
Other tax incentives the bill offers include:
- Annual property tax reduced by 50%
- No tax on dividends and interest
- Imported motor vehicle duty reduced
- Waiver of transfer taxes for the first purchase of real estate
- Mortgage taxes reduced by 50%
There are so many reasons why it makes perfect sense as a retiree to live in this serene land known as the ‘Nature Island of the Caribbean.'
A variety of housing solutions
Cap Cana and other booming areas will soon offer all kinds of housing solutions for retirees-from condos and gated communities to seaside-villas that offer an opulent lifestyle, as well as luxury apartments. Due to this demand, property prices at Cap Cana have increased by twenty per cent in a single year.
With Donald Trump's endorsement plans of a $2 billion (£1 billion) cliff-top estates, featuring a Trump Tower, golf courses and villas began to take shape. Deals with giant companies like Altabella and Sotogrande have taken place and Ritz-Carlton has plans for a hotel and luxury homes complex in this area.
