Caracas, Apr 25 (Prensa Latina) The Venezuelan government is working with Chinese advisers with the goal of present in July its short, medium, and long-term mining development plans, the Basic Industry Ministry announced Monday.
The objective is to reinforce mining production processes, take advantage of international prices, and establish the country as a mining power, the ministry said in a press release.
The projects are also an alternative to oil production, which as the driving force of the national economy contributes 70 percent of hard-currency income.
Venezuela has large reserves of bauxite (aluminium), iron, and gold, located chiefly in the states of Bolivar and Delta Amacuro.
A top-level Chinese delegation has been visiting Venezuela since mid-April to help plan its development in strategic fields such as industrialization and housing construction.
